Changes in the registration Certificate

CHANGE OF NAME OF THE VESSEL -Provide IMC the new name of the vessel to verify its availability in the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine of Panama. If the new name is available send by fax to IMC: +507 263-4737 the following documents to obtain your Provisional Registration Certificate (Patente) valid for a renewable period of 6 months:

 

1. Power of Attorney, appointing IMC as legal representative of the vessel. The signature of the owner shall be notarized and then authenticated by the Consulate of Panama at the place where it is granted.

Notice: Panama is also a signatory country of the "Apostille" Convention, thus you may alternatively obtain the authentication of the signature of the notary from the Foreign Ministry of the country where the power of attorney has been granted (instead of the Consulate of Panama), provided such country is also a signatory of the "Apostille" Convention.

Disregard if you have granted a Power of Attorney to IMC

2. Special Safety Inspection for vessel over 20 years (Circular 26) monitored by the Department of Safety (SEGUMAR) in New York.

3. Consent of the Mortgagee or Certificate of Cancellation of Mortgage, duly notarized and with the Apostille or authentication of the Consulate of Panama.

4. Good Standing Certificate from the Public Registry of Panama (obtained by IMC).

5. Payment of Tariffs & Taxes (See Money Transfer Instructions)


Any name for the vessel may be reserved for any period requested by paying USD 20.00 per month to the Panama Maritime Authority.

The Merchant Marine of Panama completes your registration process within 48 hours and a copy of the Provisional Certificate of Registration is send to you by fax immediately. You will receive the Provisional Certificate by courier to the address designated by the owner within 2 or 3 days after the document has been issued. Be sure to provide the relevant data in the General Correspondence and Billing Information Form.


To obtain the Permanent Registration Certificate (Patente Reglamentaria) with the new name of the vessel send the above mentioned documents and the International Tonnage Certificate (indicting the new name of the vessel) by courier to:

CHANGE OF TONNAGE AND STRUCTURE OF THE VESSEL: To obtain a new Provisional Registration Certificate send by fax to IMC: +507 263-4737 the following documents to obtain your Provisional Registration Certificate (Patente) valid for a renewable period of 6 months:

1. Power of Attorney, appointing IMC as legal representative of the vessel. The signature of the owner shall be notarized and then authenticated by the Consulate of Panama at the place where it is granted.

2. International Tonnage Certificate indicating the new dimensions of the vessel issued by a class society authorized to act on behalf of the Merchant Marine of Panama. If the Certificate has not been issued yet you are required to obtain a confirmation by the Department of Safety in New York (SEGUMAR).
3. Special Safety Inspection for vessel over 20 years (Circular 26) monitored by the Department of Safety (SEGUMAR) in New York.
4. Good Standing Certificate from the Public Registry of Panama (obtained by IMC).

1. Power of Attorney, appointing IMC as legal representative of the vessel. The signature of the owner shall be notarized and then authenticated by the Consulate of Panama at the place where it is granted.
